However, modern control systems now demonstrate that these goals are inextricably linked. AI acts as the connective tissue, allowing factories to optimize energy consumption while increasing throughput. Consequently, digitisation is no longer a luxury but a fundamental necessity for maintaining global relevance.

Moving Beyond the AI Hype to Measurable ROI

While AI dominates corporate discussions, the focus has pivoted toward concrete use cases. Plant managers now demand clear returns on investment (ROI) before committing to large-scale deployments. Schneider Electric illustrates this trend through its "Lighthouse" factories in China and France. These sites prove that factory automation powered by AI can simultaneously reduce emissions and operational costs while enhancing workforce capabilities.

By implementing digital twins and automated sensors, utilities can reduce leakage and optimize energy use. As a result, water security becomes an achievable goal through the strategic application of industrial automation.

Decarbonizing Heavy Industry with Green Steel and Hydrogen
